Module 1: Strategy & Planning

Overview

Some of the most important things to learn about making great Camtasia videos need to be understood well before your ever hit the "Record" button! Let’s face it…no amount of editing can fix lousy content! Here’s what we’ll cover in this Module:

  • Video Strategy
  • The Video "Process"
  • Planning
  • Getting Started Right – Before You Hit RECORD

The #1 problem we consistently see in Camtasia videos actually has nothing to do with video…it’s BAD AUDIO! You’ll find out what that means in the Ace the Audio tutorial but understand this:

Severe problems with your audio will CRUSH the effectiveness and watch ability of your videos by a huge percentage. This is usually easy to avoid so make sure you’re starting out right with this important component!

Step

Record some audio with your current audio recording setup.

Did you "Ace" it? – Yes? Good!

No? Post a message in the Camtasia Training Forum with your problem:

Step  Create your Video Directory Structure on your local hard drive (see sample in Resources below)

A very important part of getting started properly is to set up a directory structure on your work computer that will allow you to stay organized. There can be a LOT of elements to a video project: Images, planning docs, recordings, project files, etc.

Being able to find all these things when you are creating your videos will help keep you from going insane! Ask us how we know that! ;-)
